Multi-year comparison report
Is there a way to generate a multi-year report comparing multiple years in one report? Only way I've been able to do anything remotely close is to generate multiple reports and cycling between the tabs but it would be nice to be able to have all the information on one report separated by columns.

Enable multi-user editing
Allow multiple users, in a business to access the database at the same time so that multiple transactions can be entered or updated simultaneously, and do so with remote access capabilites like Terminal Server (Windows) or X-Term sessions (Linux/Unix) .
This is a feature in many commercial programs and this is exactly why many business users of such programs are not using GnuCash.
If GnuCash wants to secure donations from the business community beyond the home or individual operating as a business, this feature will make GnuCash extremely attractive to a market that routinely pays $3,000 to $5,000…308 votesConcurrent multi-user support has been part of our long-term goals for a while now:
http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Roadmap#Database_and_QOFTime to update the status of this feature request…
Note it still says “long-term”, which currently means several years ahead of us. -
Select several items at once in any list
Allow using the shift and control keys to select multiple transactions in an account register or multiple accounts in the Account list or multiple lines in a split transaction. Then allow actions such as copy or delete on these multiple items.

allow multiple select in generic importer
It would be great if you could highlight multiple transactions when importing an OFX file, and assign the same account (and action) to them all at the same time. This functionality currently exists in the QIF importer, but not in the generic importer.

select column for reconciliation status in reports
In addition to selecting date, memo etc, select the reconciliation status so that we can tell from a report whether or not a transaction has cleared the bank

While open the GNU cash main window there should be a option to select the account. Like a drop down list to select the file.

Report Option: Selecting Accounts
The common report option to select accounts should use checkboxes rather than highlighting.
The list is (for most users) rather long and scrolling is common. Between trying to select / deselect accounts and scrolling it happenes ever so often, one clicks somewhere and has now only one account selected where before there as a handpicked list...
Checkboxes just make selection easier. Also, depending on GUI, toggling checkboxes can also be done with several at once, so this feature is not lost due to the proposed change.

select booking and create new online boocing with its data
when a booking in an online account is selected
I'd like to create a new online booking with the data of the selected booking (open the online booking dialogue)
The type of booking (SEPA or old style) should be determined by the type of the selected booking.
the counter account should also be preselected as the same as the selected booking

Configuration Option for Backup Location
It would be nice to have the option to place Gnucash-generated backup files in
a designated folder. This configuration setting might best appear on the same
Preferences tab as the Delete Backup Files preference. The preference pane
could display:
- the active backup folder (defaulting to the data file location),
- a folder selection widget, and
- a Select button to implement the change159 votes -
Categorize multiple transactions at once
It would be nice if I could select multiple transactions at one time to assign them to a single category.
Example 1: I frequently import lots of data (via QIF) at once and don't have time to categorize everything during the import process, so I want to be able to go through later and quickly categorize. It would be much faster if I could, for example, select all of my restaurant transactions at once and then categorize them all with a few clicks.
Example 2: For my business trips I create a single account for each trip. There is…

It would be very helpful to add transactions by applying the account numbers
On complex account trees it is much more useful to use the account numbers to select the accounts. Add the possibility to select the accounts by account number in transaction dialogue and also in account register add the possibility to add with account number instead to scroll trough the whole account list.

Autofill Feature should show a Drop Down List
When i am typing the description currently what happens is that the first matching record is auto-filled. But It would be more helpful if there was a drop down list (with vertical Scroll) with a list of similar records based on words present in them as typed.
For Example: I have the following descriptions previously entered
Amul Milk - Toned
Amul Milk - Double Toned
Amul Milk - Skimmed
Mother Dairy Milk - Full Cream
Sapan Milk - SkimmedWhat happens now is that when i type "Amul" the transaction gets filled with the first match even if have to…

cashflow forecast with graph
Gnucash needs a robust cashflow forecast with graph, where one can select which accounts and show future cashflow for 30, 90, 180 and 360 days based on scheduled transactions (both credits and debits) that have not yet been entered. e.g. my pay comes every 2 weeks, I get some extra income in June and August that I can estimate, and I have some bills that are every month, others twice a year... I need to know when things will "pile up" requiring a transfer from higher yielding savings accounts into checking. Microsoft Money had a great forecast with a graph…

Merge several transactions into a single split transaction (and the other way around)
Sometimes you initially expect several transactions from/to the same payee. For example, you expect the monthly rent payment from a tenant, (which may be you have entered as a scheduled transaction) but in month M he/she also has to pay for some yearly tax (which, again, may exist as a separate scheduled transaction). But he/she decides to make a single bank transfer for the total. In such cases, it would be very convenient to have the possibility to select the two transactions and merge them into a single one so that the list of transactions in the bank account remains…

Type ahead search when entering the accounts to a transaction
Corresponding bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=545160
I'd like to suggest using type ahead search when specifying which account
should be used in a transaction.Just to give an example i have the following expenses accounts:
Expenses:Auto:Repair
Expenses:Auto:Gas
Expenses:Boat:Repair
Expenses:Boat:GasI would like to type "rep" and have Gnucash suggest all matching accounts. In
this case:
Expenses:Auto:Repair
Expenses:Boat:RepairIf I start typing "a" it should show
Expenses:Auto:Repair
Expenses:Auto:GasIn short it should work like the label selection widget on Gmail.
I have a pretty deep expenses structure (matching different budgets I have set
up) which makes typing all the different levels tedious…436 votesGnuCash 4.0 (2020-06-28):

Improve UI reliability on Mac OS X version
I am using GnuCash 2.4.10 on Mac OS X. There are many minor UI bugs. See the list below. Yes, I will file bug reports for a few, but there are many problems.
I suggest that developers and testers allocate some time for testing the basic UI operation on the Mac OS X version, and fix 20-50 minor problems. And/or, consider if there is a weakness in the development process which lets such bugs get into the build.
OK, you will probably suggest that I do the testing, file the bug reports, then download the source, fix the bugs, and…

Manually change ordering of Transactions
Corresponding bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=700804
It would be really helpful if GnuCash had the facility to move transactions before or after a particular transaction of the same day, i.e. to change the ordering manually by some buttons or similar. If time could be mentioned in seconds then we could do that to rearrange the transactions.
But easier would be to have Up and Down arrows to rearrange transactions by just selecting on the arrow and clicking on up or down.
If the moved transaction reaches the beginning or end of the set of the same day's transactions, the transaction date…103 votesUnfortunately the code implementing this feature eventually never made it into the official releases. So I’m reopening this feature request.

Add feature to show the 'hidden' column in the Accounts tab
In the accounts tab, you can select to view a number of different columns. I would find it helpful to show the 'hidden' column so that I can see which accounts have the 'hidden' attribute selected/deselected.
4 votesI’m happy to inform you this request has been implemented for the upcoming 4.0 release.

Enable user selection of lots sold
Only the FIFO method of lot selection is presently implemented. Enabling users to specify lots to be sold would allow other methods such as LIFO to be used as well as enabling users to deal with tax issues such as holding period rules for capital gains and minimizing or maximized realized gains or losses for given investment transactions.
