Feature Request

Welcome to the GnuCash “New Feature Request” forum.

Please review/search the existing requests before posting a new request.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Add the ability to attached scanned images to invoices.

    Corresponding bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336843

Gnucash could kick off new process to display image based on type (gif, jpeg, pdf, etc) maybe. Similar function is present in Quicken.

  3. Configuration Option for Backup Location

It would be nice to have the option to place Gnucash-generated backup files in
a designated folder. This configuration setting might best appear on the same
Preferences tab as the Delete Backup Files preference. The preference pane
    could display:
    - the active backup folder (defaulting to the data file location),
    - a folder selection widget, and
    - a Select button to implement the change

  4. Manually change ordering of Transactions

    Corresponding bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=700804

It would be really helpful if GnuCash had the facility to move transactions before or after a particular transaction of the same day, i.e. to change the ordering manually by some buttons or similar. If time could be mentioned in seconds then we could do that to rearrange the transactions.
But easier would be to have Up and Down arrows to rearrange transactions by just selecting on the arrow and clicking on up or down.
If the moved transaction reaches the beginning or end of the set of the same day's transactions, the transaction date of…

  6. Change minimum vertical resolution to work on netbooks (1024x600)

The GnuCash window can not be resized below about 700 pixels high, which does not fit within the space available on a netbook 1024x600 screen minus Gnome panels. Even autohiding panels doesn't allow a full view.
Were the restriction removed, the register window would seem to work fine, although the edit scheduled transactions dialogue may be a bit cramped.

  7. Import-Export Client & Supplier Details

There desperately needs to be an option to export customers information. I
understand that there once was this option but it doesn't exist anymore?

I keep all of my customer data in gnu-cash, I would like to be able to export
everything in the "edit customer" window under the "customer" & "shipping
address" tabs - all to csv for use in spreadsheets (vCard format would be nice
    too but not as useful).

company name, customer name, address, phone, fax, email, shipping address,
shipping phone, shipping fax, shipping email

  8. Remember when I've hidden the scheduled transaction calendar

Every time I go into the Scheduled Transaction Editor, I hide the calendar. It takes up more than half the form, and for me it's useless. It would be wonderful if it could just remember that it had been hidden, and stay hidden, instead of coming back every time.

  9. create an option to define what type of commodity prices are being imported.

Once a week I download the week ending prices of all the stocks that I have owned to a csv file. Almost all of them import well. 2 do not. Those two are COP and ADP, because GnuCash assumes both are currencies.

    i.e.
My CSV file has Conoco Phillips (COP) price and GnuCash assigns the value to Columbian Peso (COP)

I would like an option to say that all of the imported prices are stocks, or to ignore currencies. Maybe a pop-up window asking what the individual price is associated with when there are multiple commodities with the same ticker.…
