  1. Provide more calendars

I'm using gnu cash since two months ago and find it very good and user friendly. My only big problem is I am Persian and you don't have our calendar in the program. The same problem could happened to the people the other nations and countries.

  2. Make the import dialog keyboard friendly

When importing bank transactions, the current import dialog requires us to double click each entry to assign an account. It would be much more efficient to be able to use the keyboard to navigate through the transactions and type in an account to assign the transaction to. In effect, the import dialog would behave a little more like the standard transaction view.

  3. calculate sales tax in auto fill

    Most transactions I enter are
    Cash: -X
    Taxes:payed: X19%
    Expenses:ABC19%: X
    81%

    or
    Bank: X
    Taxes:received: -X19%
    Income:jobA19%: -X
    81%

having to use the calculator for every single line on your account statement and every piece of paper taxes twice as much time as entering that number and the first characters of the description.
I could do my monthly tax statements in 1/3 the time if it would remember Expenses:ABC19% and Income:jobA19% to be linked to a given tax value.

  4. Provide a built-in accounting calculator

Provide a 'printer calculator', like a simulator of one of these (http://static1.evermotion.org/files/model_images/3e3da420fb324780b21020125fa04ec9.jpg) so that you can print out calculations and attach them to transactions.

  6. Provide for automatic correction when amounts are recorded incorrectly as debits or credits.

Whenever a transaction is recorded in the "Action" box as a particular type, such as "Charge" or "Credit" on a credit card account, program GnuCash so that the amount of the charge or credit must be placed in the correct column. For example, whenever an entry is for a charge to a credit card account, do not allow the amount of the charge to be incorrectly entered in the "Debit" column.

  7. Provide additional choices in the "Action" box.

Choices that I believe would be helpful are the following: Charge (for example, on a credit card account), Credit (already provided), Payment (for example, by check), Receipt, Deposit (such as a non-ATM deposit or a direct deposit to one's checking account), Withdrawal, Transfer In, Transfer Out, Auto Debit (for example, a utility company automatically debiting one's checking account for a monthly utility bill), and Bill Pay (using a bank's bill-pay service to pay bills rather than writing a check for this purpose).

  8. Support for templates of national accounting systems

The possibility to create/allow the users to create a template according to the national accounting system from his/her country, with account codes and names - so that each user doesn't have to create hundreds of accounts manually, having the possibility to use that template from start. Unfourtunately, it would have to be somehow updateable...

  9. Scheduled Transaction: Extend formulas

    Hi,
scheduled transactions allows for some formulas, e.g. generated by the load druid.

This functionality should be extended (or debugged) massively:
    1. Functions such as pmt(...) must be allowed to be part of a formula, e.g. 10+pmt(...) (when I tried this, the generated trxs always had a constant value, it did not change over time, may be a bug, may be it was never intended to be used this way...)
    2. Account values should be allowed as inputs to the function, e.g. the balance of the checkings account. Of course this balance must be specified (first logical second of a…

  10. Add user levels to control access to features/funds/reports (username/password), to control access to features, rather than to protect from

Add username/password authentication to provide for multiple users to have different levels of access. Not so much for data encryption, but for separation. This would also work for multiple family members using the same computer.

  11. Provide a quick way to see the full path to the current file

I often work on different copies of files with the same name, e.g.
    2011/allaccounts
    2012/all
    accounts

In the recent files menu, these show as:
    allaccounts
    all
    accounts

And there's nowhere in the interface that I've found that shows the full path, so I don't know which is which. I pretty much avoid using the recent files menu to avoid making mistakes -- but gnucash also reopens the last-viewed file, which also could be any of them.

I could keep my filenames more distinct (but then what's the point of having folders?), but that doesn't help in cases where…

  12. need to be able to attach a bank, cash, or credit card transaction to a customer or job as billable

A bill can be used, but this is very clumsy. An expense should be able to be marked as billable.

  13. Investigate slow startup time and make it faster.

On my 2011 i5 work laptop GnuCash takes an age to start up. My accounts file is currently ~900KB. I run demanding programs like Visual Studio and they are faster to start up and load projects. Why is it so slow? GnuCash is also the only program to cause my music playback to stutter when it starts up. I would hope that this situation could be improved - does it really need 40 seconds to get going?

  14. more web interface for report for easy navigation

This idea focus on "navigation" between different reports
Currently, to do a report, we have to click the menu, move your mouse, click again because menu is closed

suppose i want to open multiple reports, it could be a lot easier to see a navigation menu in report page. left clicking it navigate to thew new report in current tab, without having to close an "old" tab.
shift+left click or middle clicking the link/button open a new tab without focusing it

  15. Add projection capabilites to accounts

Target is to project the balance sheet and the income statement into the future based on projected accounts.

Each account should allow to enable a "projected value".
    Default value is 0.
    Options are (at least):
    Constant value.
Based on average of last N (default: 1) months / accounting periods average increased by a factor of x (default: 1) each period.

Correpsonding reports need to be established, e.g.:
-Projected Account Values: Shows value of selected accounts as projected for each projected period (each account one row, value in columns)
-Projected Income Statement / Balace Sheet: As above, could be created from…

  16. Add a warning, if a booking is in a placeholder account.

Placeholder account typically have no bookings. If they do, they should generate a warning.

I'm not sure yet, were the warning should appear and when, but open for discussion. I think I would not be sufficient to only do this when a booking actually happens (is this even possible? Never tried). For me this usually happens, when I create subaccounts and have forgotten to reallocate all bookings properly.

I guess, the warning could be made optional.

  18. Total by period column in budget

The budget feature already includes a total column on the right for the year end total of that account.

I would like to see a total row at the bottom, which shows total income and expenses for that month/period. This is common in budgeting.
