  1. Report Option: Repeat Column Headers Across Pages

    When you print a report or export it to PDF, and it spans multiple pages, it would be very useful to have the column headers repeated on each page.

  2. bitcoin

    Corresponding Bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=690479

    I suggest you support bitcoin (and namecoin) as a proper currency. I don't care if it has an ISO code or not, nor whether you can get quotes automatically.

  3. Make it easier for users to work with alternative/non-ISO/private currencies.

    Corresponding Bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=657215

    As I recall reading on the GnuCash mailing list(s), developers will not include support for currencies that do not meet ISO requirements. Therefore, to use the likes of Ithaca hours or bitcoins, users have to rather inappropriately treat them as stocks, virtually exchanging them for an official currency before conducting real transactions. Either that or users must rely on the XXX placeholder currency, which has its own limitations.

    I propose that GnuCash include some functionality for users to define custom currencies that behave just like regular official ones. This functionality would allow for users to point…

  5. Implementation of scheduled online transactions

    I would like to see in GnuCash the possibility of transfering money at a given date instead of immediatly, using HBCI protocol.

  6. Button to expand nested accounts

    When in the account tree, I would like a button that expands all the child accounts in the tree, showing every account.

  7. Save pending transaction changes when saving the file (without confirmation)

    When editing a transaction and pressing Ctrl-S to save (without first pressing Enter to save the actual transaction), for example when changing from N to C, I'd like the file to be saved without getting the "Save changes to <RegisterName>" - this register has pending changes to a transaction" dialog (I'm getting tired of clicking "Save Transaction" all the time).

  8. Tree View

    I'm not sure if anyone else has issues with the tab interface. I do.

    So my suggestion is having a "tree view" on the left that is clickable, and on the right displays the "content view".

  9. Reporting: multiple periods

    Could reporting be enhanced to show multiple periods on one report (e.g. income and expenses shown monthly on one page)?

    Gnucash currently provides Experimental Balance and Income Statement (= Profit & Loss) reports that support displaying multiple columns.

    They are still experimental because of some glitches with price calculations case of multi-currency or stock market scenarios. If you don’t have those, the experimental reports probably will give you what you need.

  10. to make possibility to obtain the data from Dreamstime.com.

    Function of synchronization with photobank would be interesting to photographers and studios.

  11. Add a "GO TO" shortcut

    I find it somewhat slow to navigate from one account to another.

    It would be nice to have a shortcut that pops a little window listing accouts and a filterbox.

    Typing down a few chars would narrow the selection and then you can use the arrows to select and then push enter...

  12. Virtual retained earnings account

    I am using GnuCash to handle accounting of my LLC. The LLC pays dividends to me as shareholder. I have read the mailinglist and it looks like one should either close the books (which is generally not recommended) or just create a Dividends account under Equity, which is negative and gets more negative as more dividends are paid.

    The second option works actually very well from my point of view, with the only problem being that Equity becomes negative in the account overview (but is still correct in balance sheet and other reports).

    My idea would be to have a…

  13. Balance Sheet Enhancement for Bank Overdrafts

    Can you enhance the balance sheet report to show bank accounts in overdraft as current liabilities rather than current assets?

  14. Emphasise the concept of gc data-files != gc program-file

    On the mailing lists, it seems that many users do not understand the concept of having data stored in files:
    - "How can I backup my data?"
    - "I Wanted to start over and reinstalled GC - but the data is still there."
    - "I did $SomethingFromFileMenu an now all my data is gone."

    IMHO this would get better if users understood that their data is stored in files just like their office documents.

    This could be achieved by changing the startup-behaviour:
    When gc is started with no explicit file as an option, gc should present a dialog with the…

  15. Transaction Classifications

    Corresponding Bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113772

    While the account hierarchy allows each transaction to be assigned to a different sub-accounts, it would be useful to have classifications which apply to transactions accross sub-accounts. e.g. assume the following accounts exists

    Expenses::Electricity
    Expenses::Water
    Expenses::Rates

    Classifications could be achieved by adding new level to each account

    Expenses::Electricity::Property1
    Expenses::Electricity::Property2
    Expenses::Water::Property1
    Expenses::Water::Property2
    Expenses::Rates::Property1
    Expenses::Rates::Property2

    This can produce complex accounts structures especially if multiple currencies are involved.

  16. Add Undo Functionality

    Corresponding Bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=509267

    Where's ctrl-z when you need it? There's several aspects to this. Naive undo would include being able to remove some typing or a paste operation you did to a field that you didn't intend. Sophisticated undo would let you reverse a transaction that you messed up without having to hunt for what account it's in now. Even more sophisticated might be multiple levels of both Undo and Redo, and a hint in the menu next to each about what would happen if you chose that option.

    This is another simple time-saver that's probably been mentioned elsewhere…

  17. Do not require an address for new Vendors

    Please do not enforce filling out the Address field for new Vendors to complete the operation.

    I should not have to put a random string in the first address line before you allow me to save the Vendor to the Vendor List. Vendor name should be sufficient, and in some cases, simply a vendor number is all you need (e.g. if you want to hide the name of a vendor and keep the identity discreet).

  18. User-defined fields/attributes

    Please enable users to define their own fields/attributes for transactions, transaction splits, accounts, customers, employees, invoices, jobs, orders, prices...

    With a custom fields I could solve (or at least workaround) the following issues described in separate threads:
    - transaction classification
    - add the ability to attached scanned images to invoices
    - point of sale
    - link any transaction to "the other party"

    And more:
    - I could fill-in bank account number of the other party at bank account transactions - and can later search according the bank account
    - make notes to the transactions (it's a good idea to make…

  20. Scheduled Transaction Editor - Possibility to arrange scheduled transactions into folders and sub-folders

    Those having many scheduled transactions know full well how hard it can be to browse the whole list in order to look for the specific one you need to edit. It would me much easier if scheduled transactions could be grouped in some way.
