  2. implement EU based VAT reports, including EU reverse charge and means for it.

EU is getting bigger and bigger. VAT reports are obligation of any VAT registered business. Small differences are from country to country, but VAT reports are really required. One has to implement the means or methods of preparation for such VAT reports and the VAT report itself, including the EU reverse charge report.

Implementing the recognition of countries is important. If the company is within EU, there shall be an automatic distinction between the EU companies outside of the local country and local country companies and non-EU companies, as that is required in VAT reports.

    INTRASTAT as well.

  3. select booking and create new online boocing with its data

when a booking in an online account is selected

I'd like to create a new online booking with the data of the selected booking (open the online booking dialogue)

The type of booking (SEPA or old style) should be determined by the type of the selected booking.

the counter account should also be preselected as the same as the selected booking

  4. CSV and Other Import

Currently the CSV (and other like QIF) import dialog is very strict and gives NO facility for MAPPING of accounts to CSV columns etc.
No info on whether to put last column in csv as expenses:OfficeExpenses or only OfficeExpenses? and then whether gnucash is configured to show
only last of account names or fully qualified names. I tried BOTH combinations, still gnucash Fails EVERYTIME to map accounts.
behaviour I saw was - it maps ALL the entries to one account ( like all csv rows to Office_Expenses !!!)

Then - in last import dialog, we get mapped (or…

Thank you all for the feedback.

The csv importer is currently being improved on the development branch. Several of the missing parts mentioned here are already being addressed, such as:

    - ability to select transfer account
    - ability to import files exported from gnucash
    - remember account mappings for a future import

  5. Improve UI reliability on Mac OS X version

I am using GnuCash 2.4.10 on Mac OS X. There are many minor UI bugs. See the list below. Yes, I will file bug reports for a few, but there are many problems.

I suggest that developers and testers allocate some time for testing the basic UI operation on the Mac OS X version, and fix 20-50 minor problems. And/or, consider if there is a weakness in the development process which lets such bugs get into the build.

OK, you will probably suggest that I do the testing, file the bug reports, then download the source, fix the bugs, and…

  6. effective date for transactions

    as discussed here http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/SoC2007#.22Effective_Date.22_for_transactions
    and here http://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-devel/2003-May/009125.html

it would be really useful to be able to specify an effective date for a transaction for budgeting and also reconciliation

  7. Export Invoices to LaTeX

Add the ability to export the data from an invoice as LaTeX data which can be modified and run through LaTeX. Some users have created scripts to automate this process, but are out of date and cumbersome.

  9. wildcard match to assign accounts on import

The most time consuming activity for me - assigning accounts to imported transactions. Most could be automated with a smart query string match using a wildcard. Most transactions are like this:

    Telco Co. Ltd {#2392Random Number58359}

and I just want it assigned it to phone every time. I would look forward to using GnuCash then.

  10. Add a report feature like Crystal Reports that allows fully custom reports to be user generated.

This would greatly increase the universe of prospective users by including all the many Non-Profit groups that do multiple projects supported by multiple donors

  12. Report Option: Repeat Column Headers Across Pages

When you print a report or export it to PDF, and it spans multiple pages, it would be very useful to have the column headers repeated on each page.

  13. Make it easier for users to work with alternative/non-ISO/private currencies.

    Corresponding Bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=657215

As I recall reading on the GnuCash mailing list(s), developers will not include support for currencies that do not meet ISO requirements. Therefore, to use the likes of Ithaca hours or bitcoins, users have to rather inappropriately treat them as stocks, virtually exchanging them for an official currency before conducting real transactions. Either that or users must rely on the XXX placeholder currency, which has its own limitations.

I propose that GnuCash include some functionality for users to define custom currencies that behave just like regular official ones. This functionality would allow for users to point…

  14. bitcoin

    Corresponding Bugzilla item: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=690479

I suggest you support bitcoin (and namecoin) as a proper currency. I don't care if it has an ISO code or not, nor whether you can get quotes automatically.

  15. Register with the Australian Tax Office as a Product

There lack of Officially listed FOSS accountancy package for Australia.
As you can see here http://softwaredevelopers.ato.gov.au/viewproductregister

There is 46 currently listed test requirements to be listed.
http://softwaredevelopers.ato.gov.au/testscenarios to be listed. You will need cookies enabled to access this site.

This is where Australian Accountants look for software to recommend to customers. Does bring some testing requirements.

I would like to see in GnuCash the possibility of transfering money at a given date instead of immediatly, using HBCI protocol.

  18. Save pending transaction changes when saving the file (without confirmation)

When editing a transaction and pressing Ctrl-S to save (without first pressing Enter to save the actual transaction), for example when changing from N to C, I'd like the file to be saved without getting the "Save changes to <RegisterName>" - this register has pending changes to a transaction" dialog (I'm getting tired of clicking "Save Transaction" all the time).

  19. Tree View

I'm not sure if anyone else has issues with the tab interface. I do.

So my suggestion is having a "tree view" on the left that is clickable, and on the right displays the "content view".

Gnucash currently provides Experimental Balance and Income Statement (= Profit & Loss) reports that support displaying multiple columns.

They are still experimental because of some glitches with price calculations case of multi-currency or stock market scenarios. If you don’t have those, the experimental reports probably will give you what you need.
