No, we can’t. The online bank interfacing is done with a third-party library over which we have no control. As far as its author knows only HBCI in Germany supports creating bank transactions via open protocols; products like Intuit’s Quicken might support it through proprietary protocols but we have no way to use those.

Sorry. Gnucash is an accounting program not a money generating tool.

If that was not what you meant, please describe in more detail what you want to see added to gnucash. Thank you.

  5. money transfert

the money transfert is not done in the reality so the online transactions doesnt work in gnucash

Not quite. Transfer does work, but only with a few banks in Germany. If you’re in Germany, use a bank that supports HBCI transfers, and need help, please subscribe to the gnucash-de@gnucash.org mailing list and ask there.

Everywhere else the necessary protocols are proprietary and not available to open-source programs like GnuCash.

  6. Starting GNU Cash with existing Customer & Vendor Balances

    Hello,

I am okay regarding General Ledger opening balances, but what about the individual opening balances of customers and vendors. I have been searching myself lame on the web and finds nothing. I can export my customer and vendor details from my present bookkeeping system, but not their balances. I am now sitting at the beginning of a new financial year with present customers/vendors with zero balances.

Please help. There must be a way!

For open invoices and bills, you can just enter those that are still open from the previous accounting year or make one fake one (obviously per vendor/customer) that summarizes the balance at the beginning of your book.

If you have an opposite balance (pre-payments waiting for a future invoice/bill) you can enter that pre-payment via the Process Payment menu options for vendors and customers.

What more do you need to track for vendors and customers ?

  7. Gnucash extension for browsers! (original title: Extensão Gnucash para navegadores!)

O gnucash poderia funcionar em um navegador! Poderíamos fazer o Download no WEBSTORE do google e fazer funcionar como extensão.

    Google Translate transcript:
"Gnucash could work in a browser! We could do the Download the google WEBSTORE and operate as an extension."

    Thank you for your request.

However online banking support is provided by the external “aqbanking” project. As far as I know it only supports a number of banks in America and Germany. The German banks are supported because they use an open protocol to communicate with them.

If you want to get support for your Algerian CPA bank, you’ll have to ask the aqbanking developers for this.
    Aqbankinq ‘shome page is http://www2.aquamaniac.de/sites/aqbanking/overview.php
    Aqbanking’s bug tracker is https://devel.aqbanking.de/trac/aqbanking/report

The best chance to get your bank supported by aqbanking is when it uses one of the protocols currently supported by aqbanking (HBCI, OFX Direct Connect). Otherwise it will probably need a code contribution from Algerian developers to get this fixed.

Sorry, we can’t do that, it’s Ubuntu’s job to update their packages. FWIW the Debian packager makes .deb packages available shortly after we release and Ubuntu can use those.

  10. Add non-monetary accounts to track things like headcount and other items related to running the business.

Add non-monetary accounts to track things like headcount and other items related to running the business.

Lot's of times, non-monetary things are more important in running a business than strictly dollars and cents accounts. Adding this feature will make the GnuCash system more of a management tool in addition to its accounting capabilities.

Taking this another step, being able to automatically make scheduled transactions and other transaction entries based on the non-monetary amounts would be even better.

  11. add a payroll module

It would complete the Gnucash system if it were to incorporate a fully customizeable payroll module. Possibly the people at Treshna Enterprises would allow you to work with their Paymaster software. It appears they had started a complete and open payroll software in Linux that any country could customize to fit their payroll system. I believe this approach would be well suited to the Gnuscash open philosophy!

Perhaps the people at Treshna Enterprises could make their payroll model pass aggregate transactions to GnuCash. GnuCash is a basic accounting program for home and small business, not an all-in-one business solution.

  12. Print Search Results

When I use the Find feature from the Edit drop down menu to list a specific transaction that occurs more than once in one of my Accounts, I would like to print those results. The only way you can print is when you use one of the reports from the Report drop down menu.

Thank you for your suggestion. This is however already possible: after you have searched for your transactions, select the Account Report from the reports menu. This will display your search results in a printable format.

  13. to have the option to include more columns in front of each entry made in bank books, such as the check number, Voucher number other data

to have the option to include more columns in front of each entry made in bank books and petty cash book, such as the check number, voucher number other data, so that it would be easy to trace a payment with the source documents. Also there should be a filtering option for the data entered in the bank books

There’s already a number field that most folks use for check number, but you can use it for anything you like. It’s free text, not restricted to numbers. Transactions also have a Notes field that’s revealed by enabling double-line view (View>Double Line) and each Split provides an Action and a Memo field, all of which are free text for you to use as you need.

Filtering by fields other than date and status is accomplished with the find function: The results are a live register in which you can edit transactions and run reports.

  14. Create a Windows 10 Universal App with OneDrive sync and ability to have multiple users input in the same DB from different devices.

Essentially allow many family members to use their device of choice to enter data in a central DB (in OneDrive) to maintain one central budget with all information.

UWP support is dependent upon a cross-platform toolkit implementing a UWP backend and GnuCash adopting that toolkit and rewriting the GUI in it, which will take several years.

OneDrive support is probably already there: GnuCash is known to work with similar services like DropBox and Google Drive. On its own it won’t provide simultaneous multi-user access.

We are planning to rework the SQL backend to permit simultaneous multi-user access with either a file (via SQLite3) or a database server (MySQL/Maria/Etc or Postgresql). This is a complex revision and may require more than one 3-year development cycle to complete.

  15. create

Thank you for your request. However gnucash is an accounting package, not a vehicle expense tracking system. The features you are asking for are too specific for a generic accounting package. Sorry about that.

GnuCash is an accounting program targeted at home and single-proprietor businesses. It isn’t intended to be a one-stop tool for managing all aspects of a business.

  17. Use the new Dev tools from Microsoft to port gnu cash for for android to windows phone 10.

since Microsoft has maid new tools to make it easier to port android and iOS apps to windows phone, it should be possible to bring gnu cash for for android over with minimal code edits.

  18. Add a text console/terminal

A few projects exist out there that have attempted to make working with Gnucash data outside of Gnucash more feasible including CashUtil (for adding transactions through the command line), Ledger (for generating custom reports), pygnucash2ledger (to convert Gnucash data to text-based Ledger format). With the current Gnucash setup, making custom reports can be challenging and time consuming. Programs like Ledger allow for the data to be analyzed in text format making custom reports easier for those who know how to use programs like Gnuplot.

What I propose (and this certainly is not a simple request), is to have a tab…

Thank you for your request. In itself it’s an interesting idea. It is however outside the scope a gnucash to add such console. It would add an unreasonable overhead of either maintaining a complete syntax internally or embedding another scripting language.

The closest that currently exist are the guile and python bindings which can be used to extract information from your gnucash data file in guile or python respectively. And even those are already less well maintained due to the lack of manpower/real world usage. They will probably do much of what you are looking for already.

  19. Production of GST Audit File (GAF) to compile Malaysia GST Guideline

We were using GNUcash previously, but the introduction of the GST force us to pick another software. After few trails of other softwares we still prefer to use GNUcash if possible.

The GAF is one of the big blocker for continue using this software.

The file format requirement is at the linked PDF Appendix 5 ... http://bit.ly/1DYp2Go

Sorry, we’re not likely to be able to support that any time soon. You might be able to hire a local consultant to create the report for you. That aside, there are several requirements of that document which GnuCash doesn’t, and isn’t ever likely to, comply with. In particular, GnuCash doesn’t provide any internal controls or audit trails, nor does it provide an archival mechanism to ensure the integrity of records after an extended period.
