However GnuCash is designed to do what you ask automatically. I verified it works like that on my system (Fedora 16, GnuCash 2.4.11 and development snapshot). If it doesn’t on your system, that should be considered a bug.

No you are right. I guess my impression was partially due to account with equal names.
For scheduled transactions, it is possible to have it open in several tabs tough. I don't see a reason why this is wanted. It should also switch to an already open tab.

I just reduced my votes to increase votes of the "Tree view" feature request, which would make this one obsolete.
But, not knowing if that will ever be implemented, I'll keep one here since it should be easy to implement and would be an improvement at least.
