Show account colors also in the chart of accounts
Accounts can have colors assigned to them, in the "Edit account" window. This color should also be shown in the account hierarchy (e.g., hi-lighting the account names), which would help us locate commonly used ledgers quickly. Also, this feature might make this drab but useful software brighten up a bit as we continue adding and tracking new accounts.
Gnucash 2.6 is available, so this request can be closed. Thank you.

I tried changing the color of one account to red, but I do not observe any difference in how the account is displayed. I was hoping to see the account in red on the chart of accounts. Am I overlooking something? I am using gnucash 2.6.15 on Devuan ascii (debian 8), XFCE desktop.
Never mind. I had to check the boxes in preferences under account to effect the changes. Thanks!

It would be great the the custom colour of an account would also be used in the reports/graphs.
Also, +1 for a choice of account icons.

This feature request actually contains two requests now:
- the original request to show account colors also in the chart of accounts
- the added request to have custom icons. This makes it harder to review the request and to estimate the popularity. Were the votes for the account color or for the account icons for example ? The two requests require different coding actions so they should ideally be voted for separatly. Can someone create a separate request for the icons please ? The ones interested in icons can then add their votes there. Thank you.
For the request about showing the account colors in the chart of accounts, I'm happy to report that this feature has recently been added in the development series of GnuCash. So expect this to be available for GnuCash 2.6.

This would be great - it's one of the first things I noticed when starting with GnuCash, and was puzzled when I changed the color in Edit Account and nothing happened (in the Accounts window where I expected the change to occur).
I also agree on having a choice of icon for each account - doesn't have to be real fancy.

I agree with mogliii. Different icons for different account types, or even individually selectable icons rates high on my list.

Hey, thanks for considering this feature. I think it'll be great.

I absolutely love that feature. I suppose that hi-lighting the tabs is enough since GnuCash shows the last tabs open with each program start. I could simply keep the most common accounts open at all time. Still, it would make it even more convenient to hi-light those accounts elsewhere, particularly from the Chart of Accounts. I'm in favor of seeing the additional option of adding custom icons, as someone suggested earlier.

Did you already see the "color" you can choose in each account's preferences? Currently this is used for the color of the tab if there are multiple tabs open. Does that already implement your proposed feature?

I agree with this feature request, but I would go one step further:
How about allowing to specify an icon for accounts? These should be visible also in the drop-down when associating transactions.
